Wagering Requirement

Published: 2026-08-12Last updated: 2026-08-12

A wagering requirement (also called playthrough or rollover) is the multiple of a bonus — or of bonus plus deposit — that a player must stake before bonus-derived funds become withdrawable cash.

A "€100 bonus, 35x wagering" offer requires €3,500 in qualifying stakes before conversion. The mechanics operators configure around that number determine both the bonus's real cost and its abuse resistance:

  • Game weighting — slots often contribute 100%, table and live games far less, reflecting their lower house edge;
  • Max bet caps during wagering, blocking high-variance clearing strategies;
  • Expiry windows and max conversion caps limiting liability;
  • Wallet model — separate bonus wallet vs. deducted-first models change how forfeiture works.

Regulation increasingly constrains all of this: several markets restrict requirement sizes, mandate plain-language terms, or ban certain structures outright, and misleading bonus terms are a recurring enforcement theme in the UK and elsewhere.

Why it matters: the wagering requirement is the single biggest lever on bonus cost — set too low it invites bonus abuse, set too high it destroys offer conversion and invites regulatory scrutiny. Rules-based promotional tooling in a casino platform lets operators tune it per market and per segment instead of shipping one global setting.
